Read Across America

It seemed like March was going to be a long month with no {planned} long weekends or vacations, but it ended up going by in the blink of an eye.  We were lucky to have special Read Across America activities each Friday to celebrate the excitement of reading.  What made these activities even more fun was that we got to get together with our first and second grade buddies!
We kicked off the month long fun by meeting with our second grade friends in Mrs. Begin's and Mrs. Kennedy's class on Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 2.  They read some of their favorite Dr. Seuss books to us and then we worked together in groups of two or three to solve a secret message.

On that first Friday of the month, we wore are craziest and mismatched socks.  After listening to Fox in Socks, students were excited to make Fox in Socks paper bag puppets.

Students looked forward to March 11, when they could dress in an outfit that showed their favorite place to visit.  In the morning, we made a class list of our favorite places.  In the afternoon, Mrs. Thomson's first graders joined us in our room.  We created postcards for our buddies that showcased our favorite place and then exchanged them.  We concluded our time together with Mrs. Thomson reading Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Wacky Wardrobe Friday might have been the favorite Friday in March!  We had some awesome attire!  It was also fun Friday in my room since my class earned 10 whole class clip ups.  If you missed the post about that exciting day, you can check it out HERE.

Thursday the 25th was a special treat for Fuller Meadow students as we had the wonderful opportunity to listen to and talk with a published author!  David Biedrzycki did an incredible job capturing the students' (and teachers'!) attention.  To hear more about his visit, you can check out that post HERE.

To end our month long reading celebration, we wore our favorite hats on the last Friday of the month.

We also performed a reader's theatre for Mrs. Scharffenberg's and Mrs. Begin's classes.

It was a fun month of reading and learning!  It is always nice to have opportunities to connect with other classes!
