10 Whole Class Clip Ups = Fun Friday!

The Monday we returned from February vacation, my class had stellar listening and behavior, which made me realize they deserved something special! The next day, I offered them a challenge: earn 10 whole class clip ups and receive an extra special, fun-filled day. They excitedly accepted the challenge!  It took a little over two weeks and they achieved! It was wonderful to see the camaraderie. We celebrated with Fun Friday, which was in combination with Wacky Wardrobe Day.
First, I surprised the children with new names. Instead of Robert, Brinley, and Jordyn in my class, I had Mr. The, Ms. For, and Ms. One.  I was Mrs. Said. We practiced greeting each other with our new names in the morning and saying goodbye to each other in the afternoon.

Our morning Fundations lesson was in the gym and was a game that I leaned from Mrs. Scharffenberg.  Students take turns coming up to bat to segment CVC words.  If they segment correctly, they get a home run.  The outfielders checked the batter's work to decide if he or she segmented the word correctly by writing the correct spelling on their white boards and confirming with me, the pitcher.

Then, after a short story in our classroom, we returned to the gym to do a Wacky Sort with Mrs. Scharffenberg's first graders to celebrate Wacky Wardrobe Day.  Mrs. Scharffenberg and I asked the students yes and no type questions, and the children grouped themselves on either side of the gym accordingly.

After specialist in the afternoon, we continued our fun with math stations.

Then, in math, we had a special activity that tied in with our month long Read Across America celebration.  Children first listened to Dr. Seuss' One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, then got their own 12 colorful goldfish.  The objective for this activity was to sort the goldfish by color, count how many of each color, and then create a graph to show the total for each color.  Children could choose to create a bar graph or a pictograph.  Students analyzed the graphs using the math terms most, least, fewest, greatest, and equal.  They enjoyed comparing their results with each other.
For some, the best part was eating the goldfish after with their afternoon snacks!

My class just makes me smile!

Ms. Be wanted a picture with Mrs. Said....

Then many others wanted to join in!

It was a memorable day! The class is already attempting to earn a second set of ten clip ups!
Girls and boys, you ROCK!  I'm looking forward to our next Fun Friday!
